Advantech RSB-3720 achieves Arm SystemReady IR certification using i.MX 8M Plus Processor

10/19/2021

October 2021, Taipei, Taiwan - Advantech, a global embedded IoT ecosystem leader, is pleased to announce that the RSB-3720 with NXP AI-native i.MX 8M Plus Processor is one of the first devices to achieve Arm® SystemReady IR platform certification. The adoption of SystemReady IR standards and tools enables developers within the Arm ecosystem to leverage interoperability with diverse operating systems including embedded Linux.

Project Cassini is an open, collaborative, standards-based initiative designed to deliver cloud-native software experiences across a secure Arm edge ecosystem. As part of Project Cassini, Arm SystemReady is a compliance certification program based on a set of hardware and firmware standards. It includes SystemReady IR, a band of system certification for devices in the IoT and embedded edge sector. These devices are built around SoCs based on the Arm Cortex®, an architecture that ensures interoperability with embedded Linux and other embedded operating systems. NXP, the leading semiconductor vendor fueling the edge computing revolution, has certified their i.MX 8M Plus processor-based evaluation kit as SystemReady IR. This gives developers a selection of out-of-the-box OS on any compliant platform.

SystemReady certification is helped by strong collaboration between silicon providers and hardware platform vendors like Advantech. By adopting NXP’s SystemReady compliance Board Support Package (BSP) on RSB-3720, Advantech managed the system boot and OS operations and optimized the I/O configuration and system allocation. The RSB-3720, consequently, was tested for compliance with SystemReady IR certification, giving the hardware and software compatibility across different architecture and simplifying the IoT deployment of Arm technology at the edge.

“Project Cassini is designed to unleash edge computer innovation by accelerating the deployment of scalable and efficient Arm-based platforms,” said Mohamed Awad, Vice President, IoT and Embedded Business at Arm. “Together with partners like Advantech and NXP, we are enabling an industry-wide approach to standardization and security. We are allowing a cloud native edge ecosystem to thrive by delivering confidence that software will ‘just work’ across a diverse range of certified Arm-powered devices.”

Advantech is working closely with Arm and its ecosystem on Project Cassini and SystemReady to define hardware and firmware specifications for edge devices. This standardization enables Advantech to help customers reduce the development time and costs associated with new market opportunities. It further empowers Advantech’s customers to leverage software services as the adoption of Project Cassini increases.
